A classic JA zinger   Written by Caroline SO (10/6/2008 9:42 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, At least, penned by Shirley Rae
Are you new?

I just love how, with this reference to Sir Walter, JA establishes (as if we had any doubt left!) that this is a man who is all about appearances:

"[Bath] was a much safer place for a gentleman in his predicament: he might there be important at comparatively little expense."

(emphasis on the word "important," of course!)
