Their whole attitude towards "retrenchment" is amazing! Written by Cathy Allen (10/6/2008 5:33 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Retrenchment, penned by Shirley Rae

They feel "ill used" and expect that someone ELSE should "fix it" for them! Perhaps Lady Russell, or Mr. Shepherd.

From the last paragraph of Chapter 1:"...and both father and daughter seemed to expect that something should be struck out by one or the other to remove their embarrassments and reduce their expenditure..."

JA's writing always amazes me. It is always so much better than any adaptation; the main reason I've bought the audiobook! I can imagine it, and NOTHING is missing, like in the movies.
