Static characters (who do not grow during the course of the narrative) aren't really heroines. JA gives Elizabeth some regrets in the first chapter, but she doesn't show that Elizabeth learned anything. Even the most saintly heroines in Austen (like Elinor Dashwood and Fanny Price) grow and become more than they were when the narrative starts.
