Are you new?

I always believed that Sir Walter's decision to remain single was not really for the benefit of his daughter. That was only the excuse he used for his remaining single after the failure of his attempts to "marry up."

I also noticed for the first time that the text uses "daughter's" instead of "daughters'" in the sentence in question. It was only for Elizabeth's sake that he remained single. Anne was not a consideration.
