Reminders of P&P   Written by Line (10/6/2008 10:08 a.m.)
Are you new?

I don't want to go into Austenuations territory, but on this re-read of "Persuasion", I was reminded of P&P a few times. In that novel, we are told that Mr. Bennet has managed to keep his wife's spending just within the limits of their income, while in "Persuasion" it was Lady Elliot (while she lived) who did the same for her husband.

Uppercross is three miles from Kellynch, as Netherfield Park is three miles from Longbourn. I wonder if Anne ever attempted to walk that distance?

Bath is fifty miles from Kellynch, the same way Hunsford is fifty miles from Meryton. I wonder if that's fifty miles of *good* road, and whether Lady Russell considers her home to be near or far from Bath? :-)
