She's melded the imagery together so wonderfully. The bird itself is an image of sorrow and grief, but it also serves to tie Capt. Benwick to the sea, to travel and, who knows, to freedom from despair upon marrying Louisa. The haiku's such an exquisite wee gem.

The Group Read Board will close Friday evening. Every Pemberley Group Read is a pleasure where one is sure to find good company. But a Group Read of Persuasion, if I may be forgiven for saying so, draws the company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation and is not just good company - it is the best!
