in consequence of the missive, P1's Mary and Charles, penned by JeannetteF
Although, I must mention that this viewing I was a bit irritated with the men's clothing. Something seems off in the fit of their breeches, the length of their waistcoats, and the cut of their overcoats. I don't know if it's the fabric or the design (or both). I found it rather distracting. :-/ Regardless of these irritations, JA's wonderful story shines through! I enjoyed it so much, especially all the lovely views of Lyme Regis and Bath. Such a treat! Recentlis I've been re-watching all the "1's" and I must admit that they're all growing on me...even NA. :-) - Best thing about P1's Louisa = knowing that once she bumps her head, one does not have to hear or see her again! :-P - Don't care for P1's Mrs. Clay. I cannot imagine how Sir Walter or Elizabeth would think her pretty. And she does not do obsequious well at all! Terrible casting, imo. "Badly done!" - Mrs. Smith - Does anyone else notice a resemblance to Anna Chancellor, P&P2's Caroline Bingley? Anyhow, the performance is just how I picture Mrs. Smith. - Love all the details from the book that make it into this adaptation, such as: mirrors, [Admiral Croft's] painting of ship in shop window, Charles chases the weasel, FW says the entire speech about the hazel nut, Mrs. Smith's story comes off right, Mary visits the library in Bath (!), &c. &c. (During my very first ever viewing of P1, it was difficult to imagine that I would ever come to love this version as much as I do.) |
