Nice reading, Line. In my first reading, when W mentioned "feebleness of character," I thought -- hear, hear! Not realizing my reaction was as a modern reader. If I had been a 19th century male, I might have had a different response. Like "W get your head examined."

I was always put off by W's diffidence, and Anne's disinclination to make a grand gesture (and find out about W!). But Anne is not Xena, Warrior Princess.

Yes, as your feminist critic mentions, W is a queer duck.
