P1's Mary and Charles

in consequence of the missive, P1, penned by Cheryl
- I like Charles, his good-naturedness, the way he rolls his eyes and makes funny noises when Mary demands his attention concerning the china, the card-party etc.
- I really like this Mary. Very much her father's daughter, vain, class-conscious, petty and spoilt. But also good-natured, someone who can be good company at times and to have a good laugh with. Although she uses Anne, she is also the only one of the family who values Anne for what she is, her sister, her father's daughter.
- P1 did a good job in portraying Mary as the three-dimensional character I always imagined her to be in the book. However much I admire Sophie Thompson's performance as Mary in P2 I simply think P1's the better Mary. P2's Mary is a flat, one-dimensional character and whenever I watch P2 I always wonder why Charles would have married Mary after he had seen the worth of Anne Eliot.
