The same lines can be said in a thoughtless, self centred manner, I think, and in a witchy manner too.

P2's interpretation was the latter one which made Anne's position very beaten and pitiable, where as P1 showed the former Elizabeth, which incidentally is the one I had in my mind, therefore it suits me very well.
I feel JA wanted to portray both of them, Sir Walter and Elizabeth, as silly, spoilt and self centred people rather than evil or witchy.
