I must have forgotten about the cancelled chapters. They do reveal the fact that the Admiral is completely (charmingly) oblivious to what's really going on. I love, love, the scenes of Mrs. Croft carrying him away to light the lamps, etc. That's just so sweet and a little bit sly. Now I wonder how long Sophia had been secretly hoping that her borther would wind up with Anne. And in her way, perhaps guided him toward her, just in the way that she manages to drive the gig without seeming to do so.
