Of course, I've been a LR defender this GR, so what do you expect? But, as in my comment on Mrs Smith's situation at the end of the novel, I do think that we the readers are supposed to understand (and even, as in my case, largely justify) LR's actions, and forgive her past errors, and be fond of her, as the heroine and her hero are able to.
