...that in 200 years, people will see things wrong with our society that we're not even aware of now, but IMO, that doesn't mean *we* should close our eyes to what was wrong with JA's society. :-) I'm not sure I agree, however, that contemporary novels don't mention office workers, etc. They do when the characters see them on a regular basis, and it's quite possible the novel will be from their POV, which wouldn't have been the case in JA's time (not to mention that most of the servants of 200 years ago have been replaced by machines!). It's like Agatha Christie, whom I mentioned before. I can very much enjoy her mysteries while still being quite aware of the obvious class snobbery in them (much worse than in JA's novels, BTW!)
