I can't think of any redeeming qualities in General Tilney, Lucy Steele, Mr. Collins, Mrs. Norris, Mrs. Elton or Sir Walter, just to pick one from each novel (and there are many other possibilities). To me, Mary is just another in a long line of JA's great one-sided caricatures. But I agree -- not much to like there.
