Two small points on great chaps   Written by Ann2 (10/26/2005 1:28 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I agree..., penned by Robbin
Are you new?

1) Charles is a very fortright person. Does he ever conceal his true feelings? He is the one who openly admits that he finds it a miserly invitation to Camden Place. Phoo phoo!

And he the way he wants to please his mother with tickets to the theatre. A'n't I a good boy?

He loves a good rathunt and warms to his mate in that effort. He probably knew Benwick for a decent chap before and is aware that he has served bravely in the war. But he doesn't hug him to his brotherly chest until they've played together.

He is dying to have a look at that rifle and so unknowingly does the couple a great favour.

2) I think perhaps Benwick had been involved in the extinction of rats onboard ships. Are you sure they used guns? That would leave the barn a messy place. And spoil the cereals or hay or whatever was in there. What if Benwick taught Charles his sailor's tricks.. and I don't think a flute was used. ;-)
