Are you new?

I don't really see his removal as "fair means." He is not only trying to ease speculation, but her feeling as well. In other words, he hopes she'll get the hint.

In an ideal world, I suppose he could have used the direct approach. I just don't like all this veiled communication of Wentworth's. It's what's gotten him into this mess in the first place.
