This is one of the few times we are allowed a glimpse inside LR's mind. When I was reading this chapter, I too noticed (for the first time, I must add) that as LR was extolling Mr. Elliot, she was disparaging FW. It seems that ever since he returned to the neighborhood, FW was not far from her thoughts, and whenever LR thought of him, she was nourishing her hostility towards him.

Generally speaking, LR seems a changed creature, and not for the better, in the Bath chapters. As I see more of her, I like her less and less.
