Bringing Kellynch to the hammer   Written by Margaret 7 (10/24/2005 8:11 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Just what sprang to *my* mind when I read that phrase! (nfm), penned by Line
Are you new?

this sentiment of WWE's might be more abhorrent to Anne than anything else he says in the letter. It's the one sentiment in the letter we can't support. It is Anne's affection for Kellynch that caused her to favor the idea of retrenching to a smaller place in their own neighborhood, and that caused her momentarily to be tempted by the idea of marrying the heir.

I think this little detail is in there to give some credence to Mrs. Smith's view of WWE; this must be a startling notion to Anne. Consider Sir Walter's absolute resolution to transmit the estate in its entirety to the heir. Even though we dislike him so, he wouldn't sacrifice Kellynch, as WWE apparently would.
