"who can know him better than Col. Wallis?" I found this line the funniest in the book, Robbin. In the middle of P, Anne wonders who the heck Col. Wallis IS, and, by novel's end, Anne and the reader still do not know him. It reminds me of Beckett's "Waiting For Godot." Wallis is Godot.
