Which sort of book?

It seems like there's an implied rationalization here, that Mrs. Smith shouldn't be afraid of her nurse's immoral gossip rubbing off on her, since there is an opportunity for wisdom of the variety that might wind up in the sort of book Mary Bennett would read.
Hmm ...or perhaps even a much more enjoyable book?
Mrs Smith's words in chap 17 Call it gossip if you will, but... but makes one know one's species better... remind me of what Jane Austen herself was about. She observes and reflects in order to learn more about her species and process her findings into splendid writing!
