Well - how much does Anne dislike   Written by Kara M. (10/20/2005 1:03 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Yes, I'm sure Mrs. Clay..., penned by Line
Are you new?

Mrs Clay?

I'm not sure Anne really dislikes Mrs. Clay - but Anne sees what Mrs Clay is about and is suspicious of her. If not for Anne's suspicions and the fact that Mrs. Clay has been staying with them for so long, I think Anne would be indifferent. I'm pretty sure Mrs. Clay is aware that Anne is suspicious since she has looked at her to gauge her reaction after some of SW's comments. I also don't think that there is any strong display of friendship on either side. But I don't classify Anne's behaviour as reserve or hypocrisy - its merely civility. Elizabeth Bennet can not be considered to be reserved but Darcy has no idea how much she dislikes him - She is always civil.

With Elliot on the other had, he is openly friendly to Mrs. Clay. As friendly as he is to Anne, Elizabeth and SW and so Mrs. Clay is as pleased with him as anyone else. Considering his comments to Anne about Mrs. Clay, his behaviour is disingenuous.
