This is getting off-topic a bit, but as someone who has in fact witnessed more than one marital bereavement fairly close up (though not one of my own, I admit!) I have to say I *do* expect people to observe a certain minimum period of mourning/singledom, and am always secretly disappointed in them when they don't. No one is saying they should stay alone for the rest of their lives, but waiting a year before they get involved with (never mind married to) someone new is *not* too much to ask, IMHO. (And yes, I do apply my own standards to JA's characters, as well! ;-)

Still not impressed with Benwick...
