Don't shoot the messenger   Written by Robbin (10/18/2005 4:35 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, News of the engagement, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

It could be some or all of the reasons listed in this thread. I will add one more to choose from: Perhaps Anne did not wish to be bearer of good or bad tidings.

If Mary was wrong and Captain Wentworth and Louisa were going to get married then Anne would have passed on bad information and perhaps caused some concern.

Perhaps Anne felt it was inappropriate to ask a question of a personal nature about her brother. We know Anne and Captain Wentworth have a past but the Crofts do not.

The Crofts could have been disappointed or shocked to learn Louisa defected to another Captain and might become very concerned for Captain Wentworth. If he had not informed them himself they would not know how he feels.
