How often has she spoken to them?   Written by Barbara (10/18/2005 12:03 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, News of the engagement, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

Although they have been in Bath a week or 10 days, how many times has Anne actually had a chance to talk to them about this?

Her first two encounters with them were 'visits of ceremony'. The Crofts paid a duty call to Camden Place, and the Camden Place people visited back, but Anne would not have broached this subject at that time--not in front of her father and Elizabeth, and probably Lady Russell. At least, I don't think she would.

Other than that, the Crofts always seem to be busy with friends. I got the impression that Anne sees them from Lady Russell's carriage but does not necessarily have a chance to speak to them at all herself, and certainly never without Lady Russell there.

I got the impression also that her walk with the Admiral was really the first opportunity to talk about it. As to why Anne didn't let on to him that she already knew--well, I think didn't want to say anything that would make him say less than he planned, and acknowledging that she knew already might have done that.
