In ch.18, we learn that the reason Mrs. Croft has a blister on her foot is because the Admiral has been ordered to walk more to keep off the gout. I can just picture them today, the Admiral being diagnosed with high blood pressure or some other modern ailment and being told to get more aerobic exercise (walking especially recommended) and his loving wife determined to encourage him and keep him healthy by exercising with him! Some things don't change...
