[Anne] knew the ways of Uppercross as well as those of Kellynch. The two families were so continually meeting, so much in the habit of running in and out of each other's house at all hours, that it was rather a surprise to her to find Mary alone...
One of the families referred to may just be Mary and Charles, excluding the two boys, though it's also possible that the two dear, rambunctious kids likewise frequently terrorize the Elliot home. (Can't you see Sir Walter desperately protecting his precious Baronetage and mirrors from the hands of the boys? Or that witch of Elizabeth looking at the dirty little rugrats in disdain? I bet little Walter wails at the sight of her. ;)
And likewise, it is said that the Kellynch family also visits Uppercross habitually and at all hours. (Which is a bit strange, because I really can't imagine SW or Elizabeth dropping by often for a visit. Hmmm...)
I do agree though that, in any case, I cannot for the life of me imagine Sir Walter or Elizabeth playing with--let alone liking--those children!
