Some of it may indeed be that they will not inherit his property, so Sir Walter has little interest in them. But I also think that perhaps it is also because they are Mary's children. The only child of his three children that he seems to pay any positive attention to is Elizabeth, so I wonder if she had married and had children if SW's attitude toward them would have been any different? I doubt that any children of Anne's would have interested him either, except if she had married the Elliott heir.
