]I think Elizabeth begins to resent that Anne ever even had a single proposal of marraige let alone two.

I also think it must have been very humiliating that Charles Musgrove proposed to Anne and not to Elizabeth. Granted, Elizabeth would hardly have accepted Charles, finding him far below the calibre of man she expected to engage herself to. But it still must have wounded her pride tremendously to be passed over not once, but twice by the same man. How it must have stung, after Anne refused Charles' proposal, to find that she (Elizabeth) was not even the second choice -- that Charles had chosen not only Anne over her, but Mary as well! (That must have been a "twisting of the knife.")
