I agree   Written by Barbara (10/11/2005 10:59 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Family names, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

Three of my four great-grandfathers were named Charles. In one grandfather's family tree, about half the women were named Suzanne or Susan, it seems.

The names were also given to honour people in JA's time too, weren't they? Mr. Woodhouse makes a kind of big deal about how John and Isabella's oldest is named Henry, after Mr. Woodhouse, rather than after his father. At Hartfield, if John and Isabella were visiting and Mr. Knightley came over, there would be two each of Henrys, Johns, Isabellas, Georges, and Emmas, IIRC. In S&S there are at least 4 characters named John (Willoughby, Middleton, Middleton's oldest son, and Dashwood).

In Persuasion, there will no doubt me more Charles (Charleses--what is the plural??) to come. I can't imagine that Henrietta and Charles Hayter would not name their son this. Probably Louisa would like to have a son named Charles too, not to mention all the little Musgroves.

It's rather frightening to think of a whole bunch of little Walters running around! There is already one and he seems to be enough!!
