...as yet another example of JA's understanding of human nature. I think many of us have felt a milder version of LR's "angry pleasure" and "pleased contempt", and yes, I do think that her emotions were probably intensified by the relief of feeling that she had been justified in her efforts eight years earlier.

BTW, I don't think JA considered it so hypocritical to respect or like one sibling while having no use for another. One example in Persuasion is Charles Hayter, who is described as being greatly superior to his younger siblings, and of course, who among us would feel compelled to respect Elizabeth Elliot, say, because we admire Anne?
