being less "resolute" than Louisa, doubted herself? With Mary constantly complaining about the "lowness" of the connection, and the distraction of a new and attractive man, Henrietta could have been testing her own feelings. Mr Hayter may have been viewed as a sure thing, until he quit the field. It would be kind of hard to call him back, given the restrictions on women showing their feelings, especially if a definite engagement had not been established. Louise may have actually been helping her sister to face her own feelings by making her visit the Hayters on the walk.
