Are you new?

afraid of losing Anne? She was very fond of Anne, not only for Anne's own sake but because of her mother. Lady R had all of those good solid objections, but maybe she was so attached that she didn't want that closeness broken up? When Charles proposed later, Anne was older and less likely to have other suiters (22 was considered to be almost if not completely on the shelf, at the time), and Charles would still be close enough for Lady R to have regular contact with Anne.
