I was reduced to tears the first couple of times I read that - it's so touching that he speaks to her in such a way in a time of crisis. Jane really knows how to show such earnest feelings, doesn't she? The "glow, and yet a gentleness" just sums CW's vigour and affection up perfectly.

It starts to set the scene for him returning her affections. Hopeful, huh? ;-)
