If looking in the book of books was unpleasant for Elizabeth, imagine how little she wanted to see her married sister in person, especially in presence of that married family.

And if Anne was ignored, and Mary ignored at least as much, I suppose we can't blame Mary for jumping at the first chance she got to escape Kellynch.
