in consequence of the missive, I wonder what they talked about?, penned by Jenny Allan
Captain Wentworth is a very good friend but I do not think he would ever talk about Anne and what happened to him. He is angry and bitter still after seven years. Captain Benwick has a very different disposition—he is so very sad when we meet him in Chapter 11. I think he is very sensitive and much like a lot of my female friends who like to talk about what is troubling them. Maybe they talked of Fanny and poetry. Poetry still seems to be of some comfort to him when he meets and talks with Anne and I have always appreciated her point that it might be unsafe for someone in his state of mind in that it could make him sadder.
