My point was that they don't appreciate her intelligence or her talents. They appreciate that she is occasionally useful.
It's funny that we are reading the same quote and getting the opposite idea.
As for Anne playing: These were some of the thoughts which occupied Anne, while her fingers were mechanically at work, proceeding for half an hour together, equally without error, and without consciousness.
Here it seems Anne is dehumanized a bit. She has put herself in the situation out of choice, to give herself something to do, but she just seems almost like a machine.
