Men had longer for courtship   Written by Jenny Allan (10/4/2005 3:26 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Anne at Lyme, penned by James S.
Are you new?

Here, I think Anne is keenly aware that her window of opportunity to marry is rapidly disappearing.

She is also recognizing that he is in the early stages of his grief, "younger in feeling." She mentions this to Harville later in the chapter when they are discussing Benwick.

Ultimately because he is a man he will have plenty more time to recover his spirits, rally and choose someone else. Anne at 27 is nearing the end of the time when she was marraigable, a man at the same age would be considered to have many more years to choose a wife he wished.
