...in short, that there is more than one factor involved in his absence from Kellynch/ visits to Uppercross.

Also agree he would have assumed in coming to Kellynch that Anne would not be around. I wonder if he knew she was not married? Would he have had any connections who could tell him? Would he have inquired, over the years?

At the very least, he would have learned from his sister, on his arrival, that Anne was still in the area. That must have been a surprise.
