Some share of the blame   Written by Nicki (10/3/2005 2:45 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I the ironic thing is, penned by Faith R
Are you new?

I wouldn't say that Wentworth didn't deserve some blame - which, by the way, I think he was heaping on himself for not catching Louisa or stopping her at the crucial moment, not for his previous words - because he did encourage her to be more headstrong than usual. He's an intelligent guy; I'm sure it wouldn't have taken much thought to realise the impact of his words.

I would say about 70/30, a bit more blame to Louisa if you please. She was the one who jumped, she didn't take advice from anyone and she was pretty foolish to take Wentworth's advice the way she did, by being stubborn rather than strong.

It's the old saying: if someone told you to jump off a cliff, would you do it? Of course not. But Louisa took Wentworth's words to mean "if you want to jump off a cliff, don't let anyone stop you". And that, IMO, is stupidity.
