Distances between the houses   Written by Caroline (10/2/2005 8:36 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Distances in Persuasion, penned by Line

I'd say that the relationship between Uppercross Cottage/Farmhouse and the Great House is approximately the same as that between Chawton House and Chawton Cottage. In rotten weather, CC was flanked on one side by a pond, and on the other by a muddy, busy road.

And if you walk it by road, it's about twice as long as if you cut accross the (long, wet) grass of the park.
