]A Regency man, like other men in the public eye, might marry to have a hostess. A woman to put together dinner parties and receptions.

I agree with this though a man did not even have to be entertaining thoughts of politics for it to be true. Elizabeth does this for her father, Caroline does it for her brother, etc. It just seems in general men were wanting someone as a hostess. They also, I think, wanted a legacy, someone to inherit and carry on their name.
