I agree, Faith   Written by Kim in AK (10/1/2005 1:59 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Is it snobbery to realize, penned by Faith R

I actually see this as a welcome indication of Anne's self-confidence. She wistfully wishes she had a happier, more joyful (more loved) life. However, she likes who she is, and wouldn't trade her self worth away for (perhaps) fleeting happiness.

Another indication of Anne's devotion to duty, or right. She values character, integrity, intelligence--being all you can be--more than a happy situation.
