in consequence of the missive, Week 2 Focus: Family Influencing Marriage, penned by Pennie
A Regency man, like other men in the public eye, might marry to have a hostess. A woman to put together dinner parties and receptions. A man with political ambitions saw a wife as a necessity, not only for the above reason, but also because it was respectable. His opponents would cast rumors if he were single, especially at an advanced age. Recall, Colonel Brandon, at thirty-five, stood out in S&S because he was STILL a bachelor.
Granted, CW is just a captain, but has money, and might be thinking of politics.
