Distances   Written by Johanna Elisabet (10/1/2005 7:41 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Distances in Persuasion, penned by Line

The differance in distance between the grat house and the cottage could be the difference between following the road: half a mile and going cross-country: a quarter of a mile.

As for Anne not walking the three miles to her sister might be because it takes quite a while to walk that far. (It takes me an hour unless I am in a hurry.) She wouldn't want to be tired when she reached her sister and had to listen to all Marys complaints.
