{I don't think that he is purposely bringing up the year '06 to hurt Anne. Instead, I believe he is convinced that he is bringing it up naturally in the conversation, to show Anne that he is able to speak lightly of that time, to show her that he is quite recovered.

Oh I quite agree Kim... He thinks her power over him is gone. (Or so he tells himself)... A phrase comes to mind...
