The truth from disagreeable or ridiculous characters   Written by Line (9/28/2005 8:13 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Oh no!, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

One thing I've noticed during this GR is that more than once, Mary says something I definitely agree with. (The fact that she undercuts herself in the next sentence is another subject! ;-) It's obvious that JA expected her readers to agree with saintly Anne that nursing is a woman's natural task, but all I can say in my 21st-century way is that if my husband went out to enjoy himself on a day when one of our children had just been badly injured or become very sick, with an uncertain prognosis, he'd better not plan on coming home again any time soon! ;-)

Of course, I pity poor little Charles if he *had* been left with just his mother for company!
