He could have written a letter   Written by Tracy W (9/28/2005 4:30 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, CW in a pickle, penned by James S.
Are you new?

In MP, Edmund Bertram discusses writing a letter of proposal of marriage to Mary Crawford.

In P&P, when Mr Bennet tells Elizabeth he's received a letter and he didn't realise he had two daughters on the verge of marriage, Elizabeth wonders if Mr Darcy has written to him proposing marriage to her, and can't decide whether to be pleased that he proposed at all or offended that he contacted her father first rather than her.

Etiquette forbade the woman contacting the man this way, but he was allowed to cover sheets of paper with his hopes and arguments.
