Richard-Dick abbreviation Written by Kalyn (9/28/2005 3:22 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Ch 5: Excepting one short period of her life..., penned by Emmy

I have absolutely no background on this, I can only offer my interpretation. When JA says "the abbreviation of his name," I thought she meant his nickname, Dick. I thought it was as you say, that Richard had never done anything to deserve anybody's respect. Instead of being referred to as Mr. Richard Musgrove, he's "thickheaded Dick!"
