Captain Wentworth the chauvinist   Written by Jace (9/28/2005 11:07 a.m.)
Are you new?

No, of course not. I was so kidding. :)

I've a question though. So, we know that CW is charming and brilliant etc. etc. But how does one explain his attitude regarding women on board?

Why did JA have to include such a lengthy discussion on how CW detests women aboard his ship? Was it to make a segue for his treatment of Captain Harville's family? Was it a conventional and conservative attitude of the time? Was the attitude a bitter effect of his breakup with Anne? Was it to emphasize his gallantry? Or his delicate and un-rational view of women?

If there's one aspect of CW's personality I totally don't understand, it's this. What does this mean?
