You're right, my heart just aches for Anne in this chapter - well, the whole book, but this especially.

Oh poor honey. But then, when she thought it couldn't get any worse: "His cold politeness, his ceremonious grace, were worse than any thing."

ouch. Two people whose hearts were once so open to each other, who loved so deeply, now reduced to cold, distant politeness. Oh, it is deliciously sad!
